According to State Law, the Tax Commissioner is responsible for the administration of the Governors Tax credit on real property taxes, the billing and collection of current and delinquent ad valorem taxes due to the State, the Board of Education, the Transit Authority, and the County.

The Tax Commissioner is also responsible for the collection and disbursement of public utility taxes, mobile home taxes, and timber taxes.
