The Pike County Emergency Services (PCES) stations cover the unincorporated areas of Hollonville, Lifsey Springs, Second District and the City of Williamson, Ga.
The PCES responds to approximately 1,500 calls per year and operates 19 pieces of apparatus. These include 4 engines, 4 tankers, 2 rescues, 1 squad, 3 command cars, 2 SCUBA trucks and 2 boats and our Fire Safety House.
We educate 800 school children annually in Fire Safety and Prevention. In 2003, we received a grant from the United States Fire Administration for Fire Prevention and acquired our Fire Safety House.
The PCES also received a grant in 2006 for extrication equipment.
All of the engines and rescues in Pike County are able to provide Basic Life Support and extrication. Personnel are trained through the Georgia Fire Academy and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency in extrication, basic firefighting and any advanced courses that may be offered via certified instructors on staff with Pike County.
In September 2006, the PCES and the Pike County Board of Commissioners resolved to be National Incident Management System trained and have reached approximately 90% completion.
The department's budget has continued to grow with the demands being placed on it by increased population, mandated regulations and number and types of alarms answered annually. The 2007-2008 operating budget is approximately $170,000.00.
Thanks to the citizens' approval of a SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax), the PCES has ordered 4 American LaFrance Liberty engines, and the re-building of 3 fire stations is underway.
