Many counties have asked ACCG for assistance in educating their citizens about the potential impact to their property tax bills as a result of the loss of the Homeowners’ Tax Relief Grant credit. In response to these requests, ACCG has developed a series of communications tools that will help county government provide a clear, consistent and factual message across the state. Many of these communications tools can also be localized to highlight specific information about your county, including a property tax bill insert, a 30-second television public service announcement, a press release and other items. To learn more about these communications tools, go to www.accg.org and click “HTRG Communications Tools for Counties.”
All of these communications tools encourage people to visit a new website that has been developed - www.FactsAboutPropertyTax.com. The primary goal of this site is to provide basic information about property taxes to Georgia citizens and to direct them to other resources (such as the Department of Revenue) for more information. Initially, the main feature of this website focuses on the elimination of the HTRG program. As we head into the 2010 legislative session, this feature will be modified to help educate the public about the investments that are made in their communities through property taxes as well as the impact of proposed legislation at the local level.
ACCG would like to thank Athens-Clarke County for graphic design and creative assistance in developing the tax bill insert, the television public service announcement and the concept for the website as well as for coordinating the production of the television public service announcement. In addition, Bibb County and Fulton County provided financial assistance to help produce these resources.
Please let me know if you have any questions or need assistance in modifying these resources for your community.
Work is complete and Turner Bridge Road is now open!
